How to Sing Anything You Want
I wanted to do my own before and after tapes and so I recorded myself singing “I’m Yours” by Jason Mraz – for my “Before” recording, just as a test. When the course arrived in the mail – I was psyched. It comes with 12 CDs, a booklet, and a video. Brett Manning explains in the video that the main meat of the program is in the CDs – research has proven that best way for people to learn how to sing is through audio and video and that reading doesn’t really cut it. Still the book was good – it very concise and well organized – and actually answered some of the questions that my other books didn’t.
This Course Is Starting to Look Good…
I went through the first two CDs right away and definitely blew my mind right off the bat. Brett Manning Singing Success teaches you about things that the other courses don’t – he teaches you how to access your head voice. If you’re singing with your head voice, you’re not pushing or singing with any effort – you’re able to get to all the notes, the highs and the lows, with the exact same tonality. This is definitely a mind-shift from how I had been thinking up to now. The main question is – could Singing Success actually teach me how to do it…

Is This Program Is Right For You?
Now, I’ve gone through all the singing courses I could get my hands on – Roger Love’s “Set Your Voice Free”, Seth Riggs’ “Singing for the Stars”, Jeffery Allen’s “Secrets of Singing”, and much more. But none of these products really got me to the quality of voice that I was looking for. I wanted to sound like the singers in the bands that I listen to, not some dated oldies tunes. I never really stuck to these courses for very long (or maybe they didn’t really stick to me), they never really effected me very much, and they all ended up collecting dust on my bookshelf. All those other courses really got me was more volume!
Is Brett Manning For Real?
So, of course, I approached Brett Manning Singing Success very cautiously. It had a high price tag and I didn’t want just another course teaching me the same thing. But as I did research, I noticed quite a lot of buzz around this course – lots of positive reviews and lots of people saying it changed their singing completely. Brett is the vocal coach of Keith Urban and the girl from Paramore so that’s definitely more in the direction I want to take my voice (and a whole lot more than all of those dusty other courses). So I broke down and ordered it – and am I glad that I did!

It seems like all the singers in the bands I know are training with vocal coaches these days – but not me – I just canceled my singing lessons last month because I can’t afford it anymore
. Of course, being the serious pro that I am, I did a ton of research before hitting on Brett Manning’s Singing Success course. Everywhere I looked there were promises to change the way I sing, train my voice to be stronger, expand my range over an octave (and my voice goes pretty high already…), and teach it actively without theory. This article is going to explore my first impressions of the Brett Manning Singing Success course as I begin to use it instead of voice lessons.
Every time I see a different vocal coach or go to a different singing teacher, they immediately want to change the way I sing and Brett Manning’s Singing Success is no exception. Brett has a much different singing technique than my last coach – its all about singing at “speech level” so that you’re not straining your vocal cords. He’s all about getting resonance to be in your face and not in your throat (or wherever) and he really got me to radically change the way I think about singing. My voice definitely did make a radical transformation within a few short lessons, but the real change that blew me away had to do with the strength of my voice.
My band is insanely loud – I’m used to leaving every practice with my voice feeling trashed and exhausted, so I knew that I needed serious voice training in the strength area. Through Brett Manning’s speech level exercises – I learned that what I was doing was actually hurting my voice more than helping. I was straining my vocal cords because I was pushing too way much air through them trying to compete with my band. Brett’s lessons got me pushing less on my cords with sacrificing any tonal quality – pretty amazing! I can literally sing all day now after these exercises!
There’s a lot of talk on the internet about this course and most of it seems to be centered around Brett’s claim that he can expand your vocal range over an octave. I sing really high falsetto in kind of a Thom Yorke way and so the idea of going even higher seemed a little too good to be true. The main thing The Singing Success course got me had less to do with how high I could sing but rather the quality of my high notes. While I definitely am singing 5 notes higher than I used to (not the full octave yet, but we’ll see as I do the exercises more) – my high notes are so much more pure, less breathy and less scratchy. This alone has made the entire course worth it for me!
I’ve only been using Brett Manning Singing Success course for two weeks now, but I have to say it has been an overwhelming success. The guys in my band have totally noticed a difference, when I listen to old recordings the change is like night and day, and my voice is way more pure in the upper register – I’m psyched! I just found out that my friend is paying $100 an hour to his vocal coach for lessons – compared to that, I’m going to have to say that the Singing Success lessons are a steal!
